iPED writing retreat
The beginning of last week I was lucky enough to go on an iPED writing retreat.
iPED is the Inquiring Pedagogies Network at Coventry University, focused on research capacity building particularly in the areas of teaching and learning i.e. pedagogic research. The retreat was run by the
Centre for Academic Writing. We were taken to a conference centre where we worked in one hour or one and half hour chunks from 5-6 & 9-10pm on the first evening to 5pm on the third day. We began at 8.30am on the two full days we were there, with time off for lunch and dinner and many short breaks. Most of us managed to do around 15 hours of solid writing and reading over the time we were there and spent time discussing the writing process and sharing our work with other participants. We were also buddied up with one particular person to provide further support and motivation. The course facilitator gave us sepecifc feedback as requested. All in all a very productive and enjoyable few days.
Interestingly a recent THES article "
Writing in small snack-size nuggets to avoid choking" suggests a small chunk approach.
